The test reacts directly with antibodies to bacteria of the Legionella pneumophilia serogroup 1 genus. To date, these are responsible for all known outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease (a serious, often fatal, form of pneumonia spread by contaminated aerosols).
No incubation in special culture media is required, meaning results are known within a very short period.
