Problems after water damage

Caused by floods, burst water pipes or blocked sewage pipes, water can enter buildings. In unfavourable cases, e.g. blocked/clogged sewage pipes or floods, this leads to backups in the sewage system. As a result, dirty water mixed with sewage enters the houses. The sludge, contaminated with faecal and other germs, penetrates every crack and begins to stink of sewage and mustiness. There is an increased risk of infection and mould.

Sanosil Disinfectants: Use after floodings

Procedure for cleaning and disinfection after damage caused by flooding

  • Pumping out the flooded areas
  • Document the damage/ call in the insurance company’s damage expert.
  • Remove all objects from the basement or flooded area and either wash them off or dispose of them.

Spray/wash affected walls with fresh water and, if necessary, alkaline active foam cleaner (Sanosil Foam Clean A, WallClean A, or equally effective). Remove dirty water with a water vacuum cleaner and connected drainage pump with drainage hose

Disinfection after cleaning

After pumping out and cleaning, the affected surfaces must be disinfected. This greatly reduces the risk of infection by faecal and pathogenic germs. At the same time, the development of bad odours can be stopped/prevented.
Thorough disinfection also has a prophylactic effect against mould growth. This gives you the time you need to use dehumidifiers * to dry out the affected rooms.

Why use Sanosil S010 for disinfection after water damage?

  • Proven effectiveness against a broad spectrum of microorganisms
  • Good environmental compatibility – practically completely decomposes into water and oxygen
  • Reduces odours through oxidation
  • Non-flammable, does not form vapours
  • Depot effect / preserving (allows a time window for drying)

To be noted

:Although Sanosil S010 is also suitable for surfaces with a higher organic load, the disinfection effect is increased several times over by cleaning as thoroughly as possible. The more thoroughly the surfaces to be disinfected are pre-cleaned, the more effective and efficient the subsequent disinfection will be.

Drying the damp rooms:

After disinfection, the rigorous use of fan heaters, construction drying equipment and/or dehumidifiers is mandatory.
Calling in a professional construction drying company is highly recommended, as these companies, with the appropriate equipment and know-how, make complete drying possible in the first place.
This drying phase can take days to weeks, depending on how long the walls have been standing in water.
If unpleasant odours develop during this time, further disinfection may be necessary.
